Bob Harp shared how the City of Independence is creating online business
and occupancy licenses renewals and utility payment applications. He brought the consultants listed above who helped
with the project.
The final product for business licenses renewals and occupancy licenses should be available mid-March. The utility
payment portion would also eventually allow residents to view their 12-month history, connect and disconnect service
online.
The city used existing hardware (AS400) and software (JavaCard - worked with current IVR) and wrote some of its
own coding so costs were minimal for implementation. Independence uses Verisign and a Firewall for security.

Dave Grinnell, Olathe, initiated a discussion about Intranet possibilities including:
- Using web cams for crews in the field to monitor equipment, Public Works operations, and security cams.
- Codes, manuals and ordinances
- Historical documents
- W4 and W2 changes (digital signatures)
- Emergency response information
- Report submissions, government to government
- Staff meeting minutes
Our next meeting will be March 19 at 9 a.m. in the MARC Boardroom, 6th and Broadway, KCMO. Tentative topics are:
- Rich Lovett will share process of video streaming council meetings on Web.
- Guest speaker to answer questions about security issues.
Note: Our April meeting will be replaced by the option of attending MARC's
E-gov seminar with City Managers, RAPIO and RITMA. The April Managers Luncheon has been scheduled for Friday, April
20. The program will feature what could be a great regional initiative on e-government and a partnership between
local governments, the Innovations Group and MARC. Look for more details to come via the listserv.
