Presentations
Preview of web sites
Brett Williamson demonstrated
a application available on the Johnson County web site that allows the public
to verify that a potential skilled-trades contractor is in compliance with the
county’s requirement
for annual certification process.
In addition to providing a convenient way for the public to verify that a contractor is in compliance with Johnson County ’s construction ordinances, this system allows vendors to schedule mandatory training, choose from a variety of training courses, and choose which employees from the contractor’s staff will attend this training.

Dan Davis demonstrated Jackson County ’s Sexual Offenders Registry Web application. This application is designed to allow the public to search for information about registered sex offenders by either name or address information. Information can be filtered by the use of multiple criteria.
This application also is designed using .Net Web services to allow the county sheriff’s office to post data directly to the web server from a custom desktop VB.Net application that reads data from an Excel spreadsheet. Dan discussed briefly the methodology of passing a .Net dataset to a .Net XML Web Service and how this data is then “serialized” into an XML file that is written-to\stored-on the web server. This static XML file is used by the Sex Offender Registry application as a dataset source file. No ODBC databases are used.
