Introduction to the Document Object Model and AJAX – Dan Davis, Jackson County
Dan showed us Jackson County's Emergency Action Journal (EAJ), which went live in February. He built the emergency management application using client-side AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), which helps to reduce the load on your web server and bandwidth. The EAJ was built similar to WebEOC. It is web-based and built in a framed environment because of many resources from different sources.
The application allows the emergency managers to create and/or track active incidents, current weather, resources such as traffic and phone directory. Dan integrated Google Maps into the application. The emergency manager can plot events on the map.
