FireWorks/PhotoShop Tips and Tricks
New features of PhotoShop 7:
- File Browser - can browse any directory or disc, rename, batch name or move folders just like in Explorer.
- Healing Patch - Similar to the clone stamp, it preserves the color and tone of the area, it only copies the texture (its button looks like a band-aid).
- Magic Erase Tool - Will extract a certain color and turn it transparent. The tolerance can be set for this to allow for little or no discrepancy in color. Helpful for removing solid backgrounds.
New features of FireWorks MX:
- Text capabilities are improved, similar to PhotoShop/DreamWeaver.
- Pop-ups are easier to create. There are more options for where to place the submenu. To create a pop-up you must first make slices on your graphic/text. The wizard can be found under Modify > Pop-up Menu > New Pop-up.
When creating elaborate graphics/menus in FireWorks, remember to always
save the original as a .png and then export to .jpg or .html or whatever file format you need.
Before using FireWorks, make sure your HTML is set-up properly first. FireWorks can tailor its code to match code
from DreamWeaver, FrontPage, or just standard HTML.
Next Meeting: Acrobat PDFs
Our next meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July
18, at the MARC offices. We will get in-depth with Adobe Acrobat. I will give a demonstration of using bookmarks
and Rich will run us through making a PDF interactive form. If you have any other PDF questions or topics of interest,
let one of us know and we will see if we can find answers to share at this meeting.
Barbara Hensley has also offered to give us a quick run-through of how MARC's new shopping cart feature works.
For August or September, we are tentatively planning to arrange either a guest speaker from or a field trip to
an organization for the blind to learn more about assistive technologies and how to improve the accessibility of
our Web sites.
