Cascading Style Sheets for Printing and Fly-out Menus
Rich
Lovett and Kelly Behr shared some CSS tips, with a special emphasis on
the print style sheet. Rich introduced the topic by sharing two handouts:
a web
page headlined "A
print alternative without the extra work" by Baseline Inc.,
and a sample script using
the CSS @media print option. Kelly followed by sharing two style sheets
-- one for print and
a matching one for screen output.
In addition, Randy Ellis described a command
for causing a page break in print versions.
A general rule is to code for the FireFox browser and tweak for MS Internet Explorer.
Barbara Hensley demonstrated her success with using CSS to create fly-out menus (no JavaScript involved). She supplied example files (Zipped). A free tutorial is available at http://www.communitymx.com/abstract.cfm?cid=55A69. Download support files are included. For $3, however, Barbara purchased a kind of "hack file" called csshoover.htc to create her menus.
