Please feel free to invite some of your colleagues from your or another
city/county if you think it would benefit them to be part of our group.
New Officers
Welcome to the new officers! Chris Audano of Overland Park will
serve as chair for the next year and Karen Sorensen from Johnson County Wastewater has offered to take meeting
minutes. The group decided that other "secretaryish" duties could be spread throughout the membership.
Government Webmasters Conference
Out of the bids received from hotels in Overland Park, the selection
was narrowed down to the OP Sheraton (part of the new convention center complex
at College and Lamar) and the OP DoubleTree (at US 69 and College Blvd.). The
conference committee will take site tours and decide on the location within
the next few weeks.
The conference will be held on Sept. 23-24, 2004.
It is never too early to start thinking about topics, guest speakers, etc.!
Let us know if you would like to participate or have ideas.
Other Discussion
John and Susan Howell from Kansas on the Net held the first meeting
of a MAGWeb-like group in the Wichita/south-central Kansas area. It went well
with about 18 attendees. There may be events and meetings in the future where
we can combine the two groups.
Kelly Behr of Gladstone is looking for ideas to help encourage city staff to
minimize "all city" e-mails
that are not work-related.
The Howells mentioned a local organization that evaluates sites for accessibility
called AlphaPointe. Check it out at www.alphapointe.org.
December Meeting: Field Trip - OPNET, OP's Intranet
The next meeting will be at the City of Overland Park's IT location,
8500 Antioch Road, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18. Chris Audano and Randy
Ellis will tour you around an award-winning intranet, and we will discuss how
to drive traffic to your intranet and make it a business tool.
Some folks usually do lunch after the meeting. Let the group know if you'd
like to join.
Our meeting on January 15 will feature a speaker on Macromedia Flash.
If you have any ideas for future topics or guest speakers, please share them
with Chris Audano or send them
via the listserv.
